The season has clearly started. Newtown Creek, standing room only today.

Shame the NT volunteers weren't out, they would have cleaned up!

The car's in for a service on Tuesday, but I'm thinking of heading that way next week. I home they'll have gone back to work by then. Worst case, with a 75cm draft, I can always find a spot up in the top left corner.

We ate out of the water ATM, otherwise you’d be expecting visitors.

We were there for lunch yesterday (Bank Holiday Monday), only about 6 boats there when we left about 4pm. I guess the weather was pretty awful but surprised it was so quiet.

They can only charge if you use one of their moorings. Anchoring is FOC.
The Newtown River is a beautiful place to visit to moor or anchor. Please be as generous as you can afford to be when you enjoy this glorious reserve protected by the National Trust. Even as a member we should make a worthwhile donation.
We all know how much we get charged in harbours and marinas so please contribute generously so that we can continue to enjoy the freedom to anchor.

Shame the Newtown guys don't give credit to NT membership

How does paying the NT give freedom to anchor ?

Being a NT member I can park my car in their carparks 'foc' why not my boat. I'm surprised as well that the 'HM' doesn't have a machine to scan membership cards so that they could get some extra money from NT HQ, which is how the carparks work.

Many times have I felt myself out of step with the National Trust and yet…I have never felt aggrieved to hand over a few pounds to use their moorings in Newtown Creek.

I was there overnight on the way to Cornwall before a Biscay crossing. I have to say that as ever it was beautiful and magical and the wails of seals made me smile. If the NT ask for funds to keep the creek and the surrounds in good nick then I'm always happy to help. I have to say though there was a lot of weed this year - I had to spend an hour getting it off my rudders, drive legs and anchor chain .

Weed? I usually pick up so much grey gloop, I was thinking of starting an Etsy side gig making Newtown vases.

The national trust don’t own the creek, they don’t own the quay they moor there boat on either.

As for the national trust it depends if you agree with there politics:
Trust Pilot: 2 Star
https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.nationaltrust.org.uk?sort=recency
Reviews.io 2.2 Star
National Trust Reviews - Read 29 Genuine Customer Reviews |

Online generally I will not deal with anyone with less than 3 stars ideally I want 4+

This probably the view I would align with.
“The more I learn about the National Trust, the more I realise that their very Core Values are destroying this "Green and Pleasant Land!" The main Core Value is "Love Everyone and Everything". The trouble is the National Trust is so rigid in the belief in itself that it is blind to what is really happening.Headley Down, on Boxhill, Surrey used to be a lovely sandy area covered in bracken, where kids could happily play all day - well it was when I played there in the 1960s. Now 2022 there is no bracken left as the entire area is covered in the invasive plant, Gorse. That's bad enough, but when I worked at Polesden Lacey an Asian Hornet invaded one of the offices and I was tasked with moving it on. I was going to kill it, but was forbidden from doing so because, as I was told "the National Trust was about loving everything and not changing nature!! The result of this could well be the total destruction of our honey bee population in this Country!!! Wake up National Trust and pull your heads out of your backsides!!!”

I have sailed in and out of Newtown many times buy once I lost the ability to take the ground I sailed on passed in the summer atleast.

I thought the NT owned and managed it. Who does?
There is something odd about it they own allot of the land around it but they don’t own the actual creek as I recall. Hence they can only ask for donations for anchoring, chat with the boat yard at shallfleet they might fill you in more.

Ah - that’s probably something to do with the Crown owning the seabed.

You can view the areas for which the NT has reponsibility on The NT Land map.
Looks like the majority of land is leasehold.
I'm OK with the NT having stewardship as they keep it open to the public. There is no access to the privately owned land around the creek.
