Following another thread on marine cable I spotted this voltage sensitive relay on a recommended web site.

http://www.iem-services.co.uk/ShowDetails.asp?id=1169

From the description it looks like it would be simple to wire up and would allow me to keep the existing 1 2 Both main switch.
It seems like a cost effective upgrade to me.

Any comments on suitability for marine use please? Has anyone fitted one?

(1GM10 engine)

Thank you,
Graham

Certainly looks a good price and should be OK on a boat. There are few details from the seller. no IP rating or wiring diagram. If you have other sources of power generation, a dual sensing VSR would be better.

It should be perfectly OK.
I'm not convinced though that with a 1,2,both,off switch its very much of an upgrade. It would be an obvious addition to make if you were totally separating domestic from engine electrics and fitting separate isolator switches however for a small outlay you can automate the house battery charging without having to remember to switch the charging to it..
