I am a little confused by the wiring diagram. It shows the positive from the alternator as 10mm2 running to the starter motor and that runs to the battery. As it is a schematic does it really mean that the alternator regulator is part of the alternator, and that the starter solenoid is part of the starter?

Yes to both questions,

It is common for ordinary automotive type alternator regulators to be internal. In the case of the standard MD2020 alternator the brushes are combined with the regulator too.
( see diagram from parts catalogue)

With a pre-engage type starter the solenoid serves two functions . It physically engages the pinion gear with the ring gear as well as closing the electrical circuit. It is therefore mounted directly on the starter motor making both parts of the same assembly. (See the second attached diagram)
