It is a risk. Over a few years the brass will de-zinc and become weak so unless you replace them before they get too weak some of the screw will crumble and remain in the hole meaning a bigger repair job. If the screw is out of sight I would use stainless ones. If on show I would use bronze screws.Am I allowed to use brass wood screws for the hinges on my companion way flap? Section just beneath the doors...

Thanks - I've ordered some as I need to get on with it!I have quite a lot of bronze countersunk woodscrews in various sizes and I'm sure I could find a few of the size you need BUT they are at home and I am away Twistering for a few weeks.
If you want to buy some bronze screws rather than wait for my freebees, Anglia Stainless Ltd sell them.
