    Slats snapped

I have a small Bombard tender and a few slats have broken. Replacemnt set is a whopping 146 quid!! Is there an easy replacement, like premade plastic strips that could be cut to length? Or do I need to cut new plywood strips and varnish them? Any other options?

    Cabin light fault

I have a number of LED cabin lights sharing a circuit, switching on/off with their own individual switch, as is typical. One started to dim and flicker, soon followed by others. If I switch off the circuit and leave it for a few minutes most work again but now a second light is beginning to...

    Sail laundry

How do you launder a sail. My furling jib is looking a bit green (that's not meant to be double entendre!). Can It be done on the marina pontoon easily enough? Or is it best to let the sail loft do the cleaning?

I see the cheapest depth displays are the NASA type. But I also see cheap WATERPROOF digital displays for rev counters, volts, amps etc for very cheap Is there a cheap digital display that could show depth only? I seem to have got through expensive "marine" displays fairly quickly over the...

    Dremmel woes

Hi all I bought a dremmel a few years back for a soecific job. It performed well at the time, but little use since. Its been sat in the shed in its box since. I took it out to use it and it worked for a few minutes, then stopped. I'm very unimpressed with the quick breakdown. I would like...

    Volvo part

I was servicing the engine, a volvo penta 2001, and noticed some powder around the thermostate housing. Clearly its been leaking. Perhaps this has caused issues with the next part. But what is this plastic electrical connection part? There seem to be four spade connectors (3 corroded) leaving...

    Scribbis scrubber

I bought one of these scribbis scrubbers. Good for hull cleaning as much as you can do from the dock, or tender. My gripe is the poor quality of the spring clip that holds the head on. Surely if it is to be used in a marine environment it should be stainless steel. The O/E spring clip was...

    Oil questions

I Have a volvo penta 2001 and have usually used a supermarket bought semi-synthetic oil, changed annually along with the filter. Whilst I have always used the recomended grade, does it matter if its synthetic, semi-synthetic, or not synthetic?

    Bilge pump type

It seems like a good idea to fit an electric bilge pump. Currently there are 2 manual bilge pumps. One operated from outside in the cockpit. The other mounted on the bulkhead inside the engine bay, so I have to remove the steps to get to it. Its a most unsatisfactory arrangement in many ways...

    Against the tide

If one were coastal sailing against the tide on a long passage say, would you be more likely to fight faster tide inshore in shallower water than further out in deeper seas. Assuming no other geological features like headlands etc, are squeezing the flow.
