The cable on mine is damaged close to the transducer. Corrosion has set in and destroyed the screen.
Can't seem to find anyone selling a new 205khz transducer, so if anyone's got one going spare I'm interested.
Any tips for repairing worn, oversize screw holes in thin ply?
I’ve got a smallish, triangular piece of thin flexible teak & holly ply about 2’ long and 8” at the base. It fits to the side of the cabin sole and takes a slight curve up the side of the hull. It has to come off first to lift the...
I'm wanting to fit a kicker to the mizzen boom on Sheolin. I've got everything needed except the boom fitting. The boom is an oval section gold anodised Sparlight, so pretty old, 2" (50mm) width.
Appalled to discover no-one seems to sell complete leisure Portfolios any more and at £15/sheet building a portfolio gets a tad expensive.
Anyone prepared to sell me the following:
Leisure Portfolio 5612. Carlingford Lough to Lough Foyle
Leisure Portfolio 5613. Irish sea, Eastern Part.
Also...
Sheolin had a removable inner stainless stay on which I could hank on a storm jib or heavy weather headsail (I have both). I removed it because it was difficult to stow, when not in use, and chafed against the mast or guardrails or spreaders or stanchions, depending how I secured it.
Now I'm...
I’m thinking of adding a 240V immersion heater to Sheolin’s calorifier tank as the hot water doesn’t last long when we’re in a marina. There’s a blanking plug fitted so getting one to fit shouldn’t be a problem. The question is, what wattage should I go for?
I plan to convert Sheolin’s coolbox to a fridge while she’s laid up this winter. I have two possible locations for the compressor.
1) On a bulkhead, not the bottom, of the wet locker between the forecabin and the saloon.
2) In a cockpit locker currently full of fenders and warps.
The wet...
Looking for a single lever, side mounted throttle / gear lever. The neutral detent on mine is very worn which makes finding neutral a delicate operation.
I have, rather optimistically, posted in the Wanted section for an Autohelm pre-ST Windvane. I have the user manual and it seems the Windvane ‘trims’ whatever compass course you’re on when the wind shifts. I was wondering if a masthead unit of similar vintage could provide the input to the...
I'm looking to change the somewhat corroded Butane regulator used for my 4.5kg Calor cylinders. I've seen advertised 'Dual Fuel' regulators that claim to be suitable for Butane or Propane. Set at 30mBar that's a couple of millibar higher than the spec for Butane yet seven mBar lower than the...
Looks like I'll have to strip my 2kw hot air Planar down at the end of this sailing season. It's smoking a bit and staining the hull.
Confession time: I back flooded the exhaust with seawater in some rather bad weather crossing the North Channel last year. I drained it, but it's never been quite...
Simple question. On my current and previous boat the depth sounder seldom read deeper than 30~40 metres. Boat one transducer was mounted in an oil filled tube in the hull. Current boat has the transducer mounted through, and faired into, the hull. I expected the second one to read deeper.
Sheolin has a very old Stowe masthead unit that just gives wind speed, not direction. Although the cups are spinning freely I'm getting nothing on the display. The display is 'live' and the voltage to the masthead unit is correct, but nothing seems to be coming back down. The display can be...
I've been looking for a video of an anchor (any type!) with a banana (be it Viking, Osculati or home-made), being recovered and coming over the bow roller.
My anchor does seem to arrive at the bow roller the right way round every time, but I'm curious to know if a banana will move the anchor...
Something I never noticed or experienced last season. Sailing along at a nice and steady 6 kts or so and I put the gearbox into astern to stop the grumbling noise of the prop rotating (which is okay with my particular gearbox, I've checked). Prop stopped and I can hear a constant whine or...
They come in 50, 60 and 72mm diameters. Is that the diameter of the hole or the base?
And can anyone tell me how thick the eye is?
I was thinking of using two of them, one on deck for an inner stay and one on the underside rigged to the keel to share the load.
