This is the story of Bob.
Bob's boat has suffered a fire and sunk quickly a few miles SE of the IOW. Nobody saw it happen.
Bob is in the water in mid April in his LJ with no liferaft.
The water is slightly choppy but by no means rough - F4-5 with a good fetch.
It's daylight but very early...
Have any forumites ever seen an AIS SART on their plotter near their vessel for real?
If so what did you do? Go straight to the position? Assume it was a false alarm and do nowt? Contact the CG?
Good to see them, but does anyone know why these ships aren't flying Ukranian flags? (Doesn't bother me - although I'd prefer a flag in my photos - just curious.)
Two Ukrainian Navy ships to be temporarily based in Portsmouth
This season, dried out at low tides, I'm going to regularly visit the boat with a squeegy mop to remove slime before it becomes weed etc. (It will get a mid season fresh coat of AF as well, but that's not what I'm asking about.)
Plan is to use salt water in a bucket. Is there anything I can...
Will a typical Paddleboard style hand pump (Track pump?) pump up a dinghy (high volume/low pressure) faster then a typical foot bellows?
Is there much in it?
Yes, I could try it but I want to freeload on other people's sweat.
(I own every kind of air pump known to man and it's only just...
My current fuel hose for my external outboard fuel is nitrile (I think!). It's lovely: Thin, flexible and coils tight for storage. (Thin walls: Internal diameter 8mm, external 11.5mm.)
(There were downsides!)
Now Esso ceased ethanol free petrol I think I need a more ethanol resistant hose and...
The carb is this one: 3303-812648T
I'm tinkering with my spare carb. Mainly for my own interest, but also to ensure all the channels are clear before putting it
In a zip lock bag until its needed.
I'm trying to work out where the air comes into the Idle cct.
I can see the pinhole near the...
I had a question about the detail of the kids RYA training syllabus.
It's the sort of thing the Yachts and Yachting Forum used to be ideal for, with a large number of UK Dinghy Sailors. It appears nobody has posted since November! Has it died? Quite shocking if it has.
I'd be tempted to try...
It looks like (in the UK) we switch from GMT to BST in Spring when there's a about 12 hours of daylight, and from BST to GMT in Autumn when there's about 10 hours. So there's an offset to give longer evenings in the Autumn.
So it seems to me the spring clock change could have been mid Feb to...
I've noticed Bilge Keelers with encapsulated keels typically have parallel keels so you can get them out of the mould.
However, some, like my little Corribee, have splayed keels.
How do they typically achieve that? Bond the keels on after? Clever mould? Sacrificial mould?
I can't remember the last time I saw both the White posts for the Roman Transit in place. There seems to be a single low white post but I've never worked out if it lines up with Stoke Clump.
It's not marked on Navionics charts, so has a decision been made to get rid of the white posts for the...
UK ICC issued by RYA | boating abroad | RYA
"An RYA Day Skipper Shorebased or higher Course Completion Certificate can be used to validate the coastal waters category only. "
Does this mean there is less assesment time for an ICC if you have a shorebased certificate of some kind? Or does it...
Some of the discussion on the latest Antifoul thread got me pondering where the closest you can get to fresh water in the Solent area is in a boat of reasonable draught? (Say Centaur size.)
Somewhere at the top of Christchurch, Beaulieu, Chichester Harbour?
Chichester Marina is brackish and on...
I plan to sail/motor to the IOW tomorrow which commits me to motoring/sailing from the IOW to Chi early Sunday morning. I can't go on the evening tide.
There seems to be lightening in the forecast, although they find it hard to predict and it's in and out of the forecast. (Currently out.)...
I've got a SH HX300 handheld with a dodgy USB charging socket. I've tried their "fixed cost repair" service email address twice and cc'd their sales team in and got no reply. (service*standardhorizon.co.uk)
Anyone have a reliable way to get them to do the repair or recommend somewhere else...
