    Stowe 205khz transducer

The cable on mine is damaged close to the transducer. Corrosion has set in and destroyed the screen. Can't seem to find anyone selling a new 205khz transducer, so if anyone's got one going spare I'm interested.

    How do you refer

It’s “The boat”, as in telling the missus I’m just popping out to the boat. She’s a yacht when I’m describing her to anyone and I usually prefix her name with “yacht” when calling a marina or coastguard.

    Dipping the ensign

Too many warships up here in the Clyde, my ensign would be up and down like a bride’s nightie.

Forestay mystery on a Malo 40h

That look like an old Colnbrook furling system where the stay + foil rotates, not the foil around the static stay as in a modern system. If that is the case the wire must be the genoa halyard as using either the white/yellow or blue/white one would result in a disastrous wrap. On my system, now...

    Most Expensive Visitor moorings 2024

Rhu marina daily pontoon rate: £3.55/m. Rhu marina weekly pontoon rate: £21.30/m. They also do a nice flexible deal that allows you 30 days spread over the summer at their monthly rate of £72/m.

    Which Weather App

I use the free Predict Wind app on my iPhone. I used to have it on my old iPad as well but it no longer works on IOS 12.5.7. What about Navtex? I still check before setting off.

Repairing screw holes in thin ply.

Any tips for repairing worn, oversize screw holes in thin ply? I’ve got a smallish, triangular piece of thin flexible teak & holly ply about 2’ long and 8” at the base. It fits to the side of the cabin sole and takes a slight curve up the side of the hull. It has to come off first to lift the...

Who has seen the highest tide today?

Yesterday was still 3 days before springs and I reckon high tide was around a foot above normal thanks to Kathleen.

    Yanmar 4jh3e impeller

Changed my impeller a couple of weeks ago. It’s behind and below the alternator. I would NOT like to do it in choppy weather as I have to do it all by feel and with my left hand. The Yanmar Service kit comes with replacement bolts, which is a godsend as I always drop one or two into the bilge...

    Anbother vote for the killcord

This winter I modified my Yamaha 2hp 2-stroke by removing the stop button and fitting a killcord. Safer, and makes it much easier to stop the engine as I approach the boat or jetty as I don’t have to turn around and fumble for the button.

Are Balmar alternators worth the money?

Sheolin came with a 110A Balmar alternator and controller. Batteries are 2x110Ah sealed lead acid domestic and 1x110Ah engine start. There is a dumb split charging system, basically just a sealed block of Schottky diodes. When the engine starts there is a 2 minute delay before the Balmar...

    Other uses for Araldite glue.

Heat the wood up first. Makes the araldite runny and as the air in the ply voids contract as it cools the araldite gets drawn in.

    Which sight reduction tables

If you're only interested in working out Sun sights you could try my Almanac and Sight Reduction Tables. I developed them years ago when I was working offshore in the Med off Tunisa and GPS went screwy when the good ol' USA went to kick Saddam out of Kuwait.
