Get my engine running again - dealing with the emulsified oil

It really will not matter as you will use it as a flushing medium and to check whether it has water in it when drained ... the cheapest you can find ... and of course a few filters to go with it !!

Thank you VicS ... I was just commenting - trying to think of a way to beat the problem of two alternators banging away at each other.

Get my engine running again - dealing with the emulsified oil

Personally ? I would drop out all the old emulsified oil .. get the cheapest light oil you can find and refill to max mark ... start engine - stop engine - it was just to get oil flushing round the system ... drain and check oil .. see what comes out. Do your work on engine ... then maybe use...

Chemical toilets - how often and where do you empty them?

An earlier post shows 'composting version' of toilet .... UGH !! While stripping out woodwork in my latest acquisition - I found such a bucket crapper under the vee berth insert. I have to say that I am definitely not impressed and once its lifted out - cleaned and put back - I sincerely hope...

    Battery Charging With Two Alternators

Just thinking out in text ... my thoughts are that care is needed not to cut off charge from any alternator while running. Second that two alternators banging into same circuits surely cannot be good without some form of control. Third - I think better to have each alternator charging its...

Repairing GRP topside - lots of small holes and imperfections!

Easy enough to fill / sand / paint as said ... For Non Slip - I use household exterior wall paint .... its cheap - can be mixed to any shade / colour .... water based ... easy to sand off - easy to touch up ... and even in white - is non glare !

Simultaneous monitoring of battery discharge and charge

The problem is you are wanting to see amps in and amps out as I understand it. If you are thinking you can do that at battery - then sorry - not possible as the displayed figure would be the net result of those two factors. You would have to monitor at the units themselves to determine what...

    copying Navionics card

In the old days of DOS - there were Copy Programs that created exact clone copies of discs, (Diskcopy, Copyright etc) ... you could clone a 5.25 floppy to a 3.5" and all sorts .. the 3.5 would be exact copy of the 5.25. You could not the other way though as the donor card had to same or larger...

Repairing GRP topside - lots of small holes and imperfections!

Clean up ... fill holes etc with Gelcoat .... longboard sand to avoid creating uneven surface .... couple of coats of decent two pack paint .... I certainly would not get into glass cloth and resin - hard work to get it smooth and even again ...

    copying Navionics card

Correct - the files code to the internal ID of the card ... I believe you can exchange cards ... but no doubt there will be a fee ... As Dave says - check to see whether its a micro SD card in a standard SD card holder

Jaguar 21 keel won't go down

This boat like many others is prone to crud / stones etc getting jammed up in the keel box. Even barnacle colonies if left on mooring for length of time ... then later if keel not used onshore - they dry out - die but the 'husks' are still there ... Just two of the many possibles ...

    Old dog new tricks

I really don't see the argument about detail on Vector ... as a trained professional navigator - I always check various scales of chart for an area when approaching land / harbour etc. I never rely on one scale When I was on ships ... it was common on approaches to have two paper charts on...

    Todays challenge

All I can say -as I suspect OP is already on way in ... Take time to think through before committing ... have a plan and keep to it ... if others on board ass well - don't let them bend your plan unless they actually see / observe something that needs change .. Keep good check on any changes...

    Old dog new tricks

Which in effect and result is not different to Vector Charting - except that Vector Charting had ability to have layers turned off / on by user .. Raster is set as its a BMP file ... so details are dependent on the chart you choose ... ie offshore - approaches - harbour etc. AIS ... of course...

    Old dog new tricks

Correct - its the fault of the program / app displaying the chart ... ALL the information is there in all zoom levels - but because Vector is layered - the program displays the layers decided by author of the program - or as GHA rightly says - other programs give the user options on layers...

Time to update your views ... Even UKHO is moving away from Raster. Raster was based on the digitising of the paper chart archives and UKHO moving towards ECDIS .... UKHO as example moved to digital correction of their charts .. even to no longer carrying physical templates ... A good...
