What is interesting is that the existing players in the ICE market are only just starting to offer electric options. By the time they get there act together in the small electric outboard market they will be left behind.
So some interesting stats....
Used my DIY 800w outboard to go to the mooring and back at full power (about 3knts) roughly 1.2 nM round trip, with the return trip against the tide.
Have just recharged the 12v lithium batters (used in series, charged in parallel).
20a charger.
Recharge took...
Nothing is perfect, but on balance it works for me.
I have a 26' boat which would require a lot if work and sacrifice of locker space to fit a holding tank.
Most people I know that do have a holding tank sail a mile or two off shore and dump it there...
My waste goes down the loo at a marina...
As I said each to there own....
I don't think I've ever been on a boat with a sea toilet that did not have that sulphur smell in the heads to some degree.
Still maybe I have a sensitive nose. :)
Well that's a well thought out intellectual argument...
When I purchased my boat it had a sea toilet that smelt...
I pulled it all out, cleaned it, serviced all the parts and replaced all the consumables. I also replaced all the pipe work with sanitary grade pipe.
Within a few weeks it...
I have one (replaced once) on my boat for 25 years...
As long as you put the chemicals in it, just empty it when it's full.
No smell and no bother...
You will be surprised how quickly it will fill up if you are staying on board for the weekend, but for day sailing it will last a fair few...
The ones on Amazon for £20 are identical (right down to the key!).
I fitted this one two weeks ago:
66706-55120 Ignition Switch replacement for Kubota B5100 B6100 B7100 W/2 Keys fits Engines and Equipment https://amzn.eu/d/3Tg2EQf
Was the 10v a type?
It's worth getting hold of a cheap multi meter with a continuity beeper and some crocodile clip leads. Then you can test the key switch remotely.
PM me if you want to talk it through....
I've sailed a laser 2 up on and off since I was 15 (I'm now 53).
It's a great boat for two and in a bit if a blow can be really good fun as it is a lot less work.
The Laser is an all round better boat than a Pico.
