Funny you should say that. SWMBO has just got off the train from Tunbridge Wells. The station announcements on Southern Region were all about delays due to Trampolines on the lines apparently. It was all very Reggie Perrin.

The policy of not dredging drainage in the Lincolnshire fens of all places, allegedly for "environmental" reasons, but really as a cost cutting measure ( profits ) was one of the reasons we sold up and left the area pronto in 2010. They are sleepwalking towards a major inundation. The insurers...

For once the ageing and badly maintained electrical infrastructure to these houses didn't go " bang " last night, but I had arranged my emergency lighting on the kitchen table.. just in case 😁

Has anybody been affected ? We have no floods at all here( I can see the river Nidd from my house) yet only 25 miles north, flooding on the Ure and Swale has blocked roads and no doubt York will get another pasting as the floodwaters head downstream. It wasn't even all that windy here last...

    The small ICE outboard.

I worked in a motorcycle dealership for a while. Can't say I ever saw a Gilera, Benelli or Maico. We were part of a group with Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha franchises. We took some absolute crap in as trade ins though and not that many were resold by us. We shifted them into the trade. I have to...

    The small ICE outboard.

I ran quite a few two stroke motorcycles and never had a sniff of a problem with any of them, but then I thought Suzuki engineering was always a bit more robust than Yamaha's or Kawasakis, even if the Suzukis were more conservative in some respects. Note: this is 45 years ago now.

    Powersailers have their uses!

Damn phone won't let me share photos ☹️ it's a Mac 26M being used as a river cruiser in York without a rig whatsoever. Too many bridges, but it is another string to its bow that you can use it as such. I think windage is the biggest difficulty when manoevering in crowded gusty anchorages. They...

    Lyme Regis - Yacht Ashore

Glad they got the boat off OK. I can be found swimming most years close to the point she went aground, but not this year unfortunately. I saw this one aground in Concarneau in June. The channel was clear and not rough.

    rust remover

The phosphoric potions are becoming rarer and most over the counter potions are Citric acid based now . All I can say is give em a go, but I don't think they are as good as they once were and the hydroelectric acid is a new one on me too, but I'm no expert. I've recently (within the last two...

Ooops, a dropped off the Sandbanks ferry, Poole.

My grandad briefly had a business repairing printing presses in the mid to late 1920s. He had a first world war surplus Chevrolet flatbed wagon which only had rear brakes . This was round Bradford and the Yorkshire Dales, and yes, my father recounted going down Greenhow Hill in it when he was...

    Insurance refusal to pay out

Technically they are not allowed to call themselves Brokers if they are tied or only have a panel of insurance companies. To be a Broker you have to have access to the entire insurance market....unless they have monkeyed around with legal definitions since my days in financial services.

    Biggest problem with boating?

Successful maintainance is a game of replacing bits just slightly faster than they fall to bits.😉

V berth foam mattress replacement, with or without memory foam?

I went and asked my foam V berth cushion, but it can't remember 😉 Seriously though id go with memory foam. It much improved mine.

Checking VHF aerial and cable .

I can lower the mast relatively easily on my boat and I have recently run a new VHF cable and put a new terminal on the top end and bought a new aerial. My problem is I'm not convinced the soldered pin on the cable end projects far enough into the aerial. I don't want to re-erect the mast if...

    Reshaping inflatable air-beds

I bought some high density memory foam for my bow berth in my 22 footer. I can't believe how much better it is than the old foam. It supports you as it's pretty firm, but isn't too hard for your hip bone. I now sleep there in preference to the side berth further back as I've got far more wiggle...

12v corded vacuum cleaner recommendations, please

That is the 12v plug in version of my cordless one with the duff battery. They are really good, which is why I am so hacked off about the lack of customer support from B&D. Just remember to clean the filter regularly to keep it's efficiency. I use/ used an old toothbrush to brush out the...
