Hi Hurricane, FYI and anyone else reading this, I phoned Jonathan today and he explained Gallagher are not accepting lower value insurance at the moment (for the period May, June & July), I guess they are too busy with the higher valued boats. However, he was helpful in suggesting two other...
Received my insurance renewal from Curtis/HJK, they are offering a "Geo Underwriting Services Ltd t/as Marine & Leisure @ Geo Sp" policy which I have not heard of before, does anyone know GEO and are they any good? My current policy is with Navigators & General and asked for a quote, however...
If all it takes is throwing a switch to get the engines going again, maybe the the skipper should be more firmilar with their boat systems before going out in conditions as described by the RNLI. However, I appreciate it might not be as simple as that and maybe a system fault had prevented the...
Same here, changed to prescription sun glasses some time ago, one thing to note, polarised glasses can show up heat / black spots on windscreens whether a boat or car.
Teroson chemical metal filler will give you a water tight seal, I used it on an aluminium water tank which has remained water tight since applying it a few years ago.

The same as others, 4" short pile roller. For the paint roller tray, I use those clear plastic tray inserts usually a pack of 5 which is cheaper, also use cling film around the roller and paint brush which keeps them for the next day.
I think there is a discrepancy with your fuel burn figures, at 20knots it should be around 22l/hr and a range approx. 175+nm (222 litre fuel tank). This will of course vary due to sea conditions and tides etc.
I have a transom mounted old Garmin transducer fitted to my planning hull for my fishfinder which if I remember correctly works up to around 12knots and another thru hull transducer raytheon tridata for higher speeds. I am about to upgrade my Garmin Fishfinder and transducer with a GT52HW-TM as...
It is not something you hear too much about, but it does happen. So best to remove equipment that is easy to remove and lock everything else such as outboard etc, but of course there is a limit and you don't want to spend hours refitting before going out for the day. It is cheap these days to...
To service the engines, the oil needs to be warmed by usually running the engine when the outside temperature is low, therefore servicing on the hard I would only do say around 20c. Also, marinas do not allow to run engines on the hard due to vibration possibly affecting the boat supports. Other...
I used to think the same, then one day fuel leaked out of a fuel hose crimp, but fortunately it wasn't much that leaked out. After replacing both fuel lines I now keep the fuel valve off when away from the boat and have a red sticker by the ignition to remind me.
I spent some time last year looking for the right dinghy, in my case it had to be less than 2.4m and reasonably lightweight to fit on my snap davits. I ended up with a Seago lite 230 as the best compromise, I would have gone for the Crewsaver air deck 230 if it wasn't for the ridiculous raised...
