Sorry to disappoint but this is about boats........
I've not taken a boat into Greece since Brexit. Please would someone bring me up to speed on what to expect? I've got the usual in terms of Greek translations of ship's papers, insurance etc. Anything extra I'm going to need to do...
Thoughts please........
200 lts of diesel in a clean tank. Diesel is 3 years old at least but the tank is definitely clean and has been sat with little air gap. Fuel appears clean and bug-free.
Keep or change?
Bound was the director of exploration on both missions to locate Shackleton's Endurance. It's a wonderful book with much of it written in 'real time' as the voyage unfolded.
Looking for one person to help with a delivery from the east coast to Ionian Greece. Must have a cheerful disposition, blue water experience and able to take a watch. Possibility of joining/leaving at Gib if you can't spare time for the whole trip. All-found on board and flight back to UK...
I've got a delivery coming-up to somewhere on Greece's Ionian coast and I'm doing some research of where might be a good place to leave his boat. Good flight connections are a must.
Just wondered whether any of you have experience of the marina at Zakynthos? Looks ideal on paper. Other...
Just home from another delivery, this time an Oyster 66 from Ipswich to Alicante.
We'd spent a couple of days weather-bound in Dartmouth but a window appeared for Biscay, so we headed off in to a bumpy, Moonless night. About 10nm south of Prawle Point the mast suddenly started making a groaning...
Oyster 66 leaving the Orwell on Friday, 10/11/23 bound for Alicante. Anticipate being weather bound on south coast for a few days before heading across Biscay.
Need one person to join us. You must have offshore experience and be confident in standing a watch. Comfortable and sea kindly boat...
Just completed another delivery, this time from Hamble to Barcelona. Apart from feeling the affects of storm Babet the trip was uneventful. So uneventful that it struck me that we'd seen very little marine life, and far less than usual. No Sunfish, no Portuguese Men-o-War, no Orcas, no tuna. All...
Recently replaced the internal anode on my Yanmar with an OEM part. Just had a thought though; the anode is zinc but (I'm assuming) the engine barrel/cases are aluminium. That being the case how can the zinc anode provide any protection since it's more noble?
Or am I missing something?
Pair of boxed, new Montelpare proper children's deckies. Made in Italy, leather uppers, moccasin construction and welted, non-marking soles. Size 31 (UK 12). £20 posted.
Currently anchored at The Rocks. A mid-blue RIB came up the river at at least 25kts a while ago and took a curving turn in to the shore, ensuring that his wash caused real inconvenience.
He's just gone back down the river and this time his wash has pulled the painter eye out of my tender (tied...
Currently in Ramsgate about to head back across the estuary.... Lots of Dutch boats here, several from Belgium, even one from the US, but nobody from France. Been here four days and haven't seen a single one. Thought it was a bit odd....
Vim has a great suit of sails with the exception of the no.1 Genoa which is tired and baggy (the owner is remarkably similar). Here's the quandary; shall I buy a new hank-on genny or, since I rarely race these days, bite the bullet and get a furling heads'l?
I like the idea of being able to...
To suit a Contessa 26. Cosmetic condition unimportant, but must be complete and working. Would prefer direct drive type (Hydrovane etc) but open to all derivatives.
TIA
This is nothing short of a bloody disgrace, though hopelessly predictable..... When it comes to preserving our maritime heritage it's a hackneyed theme of disinterest, incompetence and skulduggery. I was chatting to one of her volunteers last summer who told me that several scrap companies had...
I've got an Android tablet loaded with raster charts on Marine Navigator. I'd like to add the ability to receive and identify AIS targets. Anyone know how, or if, I can do this? It's a Samsung 8" Logbook tablet.
TIA
Thought I'd post a few thoughts on a set of foul-weather gear I've just used in anger for the first time......
I've always used Henri Lloyd gear, always liked it and it's always done the job. My old set of Gore-Tex Ocean is now 25 years old and well overdue for retirement, but it's covered many...
Morning all,
I'm thinking of moving Vim from Heybridge Basin to an all-tide mooring at the Ferry, halfway up Horse Sand. Pointers please from anyone who's spent time there please.
I'm familiar with the entrance, it's just the general positives/negatives of keeping a boat there that I'm after...
