In this article in which the owner reflects on 3 years of owning his Antares 8, I was surprised to see his comment "However the speed does limit my range as technically I should not run the engine at more than 35% load for extended periods, which basically means I should run displacement mode...
I just spotted that the fuse from my battery charger to the service batteries has seriously overheated. The plastic holder is all melted inside, slightly distorted and slight overheating on the cable plastic at each end of the holder.
The fuse has not blown.
The battery charger is a Sterling...
Fyi as I've not seen a post about this before.
I've just been trying to log into my Ship Radio Licence online account. After several attempts with what I knew to be the correct email address and password, I then resorted to ringing up as online it stated it didn't recognise my email addresss...
Purchased in Jan 2016 and used till September. Now increased battery banks to 3 hence this one is now redundant for me. In excellent condition.
Alternator (1) output 130 Amp for 2 battery banks.

It cost £64 incl postage.

My Imray "The River Thames Book" sixth edition shows a lot more locks supplying fresh water than is the case I've found. Is there a website which shows the real situation? I can't download the app which is "advertised" on here as I"m using android.

I saw 2 porpoises yesterday just Thames side of Rochester Bridge (just by Acorn Shipyard)!
I have often seen a seal this far up but never a porpoise before.
I was updating my navionics card for UK and Ireland and Chart Installer came up with
"updates for your charts are large and will not fit on your card
To free up space, please do one of the following
erase all navionics content (sonar logs, photos or other data will not be erased)"
at which...
I was out yesterday in 20+ knot winds and confused seas so proceeding slowly but bouncing around a bit trying to get to Brightlingsea from Rochester. After battling it out for a couple of hours off the Essex coast, I decided that it was getting too uncomfortable and turned back putting the wind...
When I tell people who don't know what type of boat I own, their first assumption always seem to be that it is a on a boat with sails and I end up explaining that "No, I have a motor boat". So, generally I say "I'm going boating" to try to indicate that it is not a boat with sails. I know that...
A bit of weather you really would not want to be in. It is only now some 22 years after the event that I can watch it without too many shivers down my back! I was on the bridge throughout (I am the one pale faced in the background).
I have compiled this 15 min clip from 2 old VHS tapes so the...
I am currently experiencing the following problem.
I have a single shaft with a Yanmar 95HP (4JH3-HTE) diesel engine on my Sea Saga 26HT.
After a longish run (<2 hrs), I have found that when I put it into neutral and then try to go ahead or astern, I cannot get any meaningful propulsion. The...
I had the boat lifted out yesterday after a year in the water and discovered that the single anode protecting the shaft & propellor had been completely eaten away, all that was left was the securing steel bar so it is presumably working well but I do not have sufficient protection. It was...
I have been using this very useful programme for the last few months but I couldn't suss out a couple of things which were (1) How to enter variables such as cruising speed / fuel consumption and (2) Why there was no Help section.
So, during my visit to the London Boat Show I visited the...
I am seriously thinking about making an offer through a broker on a second hand motor boat, Channel Islands 22 (18 years old). It is ashore at present and I would of course make an offer subject to results of survey, etc. However, since it is ashore I have of course not carried out any sea...
