My new to me boat which I'm finally going to take possession of this week has Raymarine Axiom 9 and Axiom 7 MFD's. I'm not entirely sure what charts it has but I know they're Navionics. I also have a current Navionics mobile subscription. I read something on an American forum which suggests I can sync the charts from my mobile subscriptions with the MFD. Seems too simple and not in keeping with the Garmin/Navionics usual practice of screwing us boaters. Can anyone throw any light on this?

The synch of routes / waypoints etc is done via Active Captain ... but you cannot have the subscription navionics displayed on the MFD ... that requires an SD card version ...

I have similar with my Garmin MFD + tablet / phone subscription navionics ...

Its simple profit margins - imagine the loss of revenue to Navionics if you could get out of having to buy a card !!

Active Captain is Garmin, the OP has Raymarine. Or are you saying you need this regardless?

Sorry .. I posted a little too quick and forgot Garmin vs Raymarine.

I doubt still though that subscription Navionics can be ported to the MFD ... that will most likely require SD card whatever you do.

Looks liker Pauls suggestion of Card in MFD and then port to tablet may be their way ...

Unfortunately you need to pay separately for the Navionics for the chart plotters. Assuming on your cat you have multiple chart plotters, then provided the Raymarine chart plotters
(A) Are of the same technology generation
(B) Are running the same version and release number of software and
(C) Have the correct Raymarine cable connection (not just N2K)
then the chart plotters can share one Navionics card. (Otherwise you need one card for each)

Being a mean Scot I tend to buy a Navionics card update every 3 years or so. Buy in March Year 1, update just before expiry in March Year 2 and then let expire for a further year. Update again in year 4.
(Clearly not a good option if a coded boat or in waters with fast moving sand, neither of which apply to us.)

Does that still work (eg for advance route / waypoint planning) when you're away from the boat and mobile device isn't on the boat wifi?
Yes. I can plan a passage on my phone or tablet, away from the boat and it will synch to the plotter.

I can also plan a passage on the onboard 40" TV, using OpenCPN, save it as a .gpx file, email the file to myself. When i open the email on the phone or tablet the file format is recognised, opened in Active Captain and can then be synched with the plotter.

The Active Captain App can be used stand alone too, using my charts by downloading the from Garmin. I can also use the charts on multiple plotters, registered to my account, by downloading them onto SD cards.

Raymarine have an app with similar functionality.

I've finally got to my new to me boat. I've updated the software on both Axoom MFD's. The plotter has a Med &Black Sea Navionics card installed but the subscription has expired. I have the relevant charts on my mobile Navionics app with current subscriptions. I've created routes on the app but when I try to export the gpx file to the Raymarine app I get "this file does not exist" etc as below. Can anyone help a hopeless numpty please.Screenshot_20240422_165120_Raymarine.jpg

I’ve just been through this on my new-to-me Axiom… from Navionics app on iPhone… subscription required on both the card and navionics app (someone above mentioned this already I think). Connect to Axioms Wi-Fi, and the app will connect and synch to that, then you need to import the routes from the card… a bit of a faff.. but this video on YouTube steps you through it…

My son, who must have got his technical skills from his mother, arrived last night. This morning, following this youtube video, he transferred routes from Navionics mobile to the expired chart cards on the Axiom 9. The chart card subscription on the plotter is expired more than 5 years so updating online is not possible and we'd need to order a new card. I'm happy enough to keep going with my current mobile subscriptions as long as I can transfer routes etc.
