As an update on this post- I’ve answered my own question, in a way; yes, we left it too late! Unusual weather, port/bar closures, orca avoidance (day time only, close to shore short hops), Tangier full, a trip back to the UK….. we only got as far as Lisbon. Happily hauled out today in Alges...

I have a small, strong black bucket with a looped metal handle. I don’t try filling it when cruising at speed. Also have a copper jug I made at school- I fill that with fresh water, leave it in the sun. Shower and rinse with seawater, followed by a final rinse of hot fresh water from the copper...

Portuguese residence is also something we’re starting to look into- we might be a bit short of the proof of income side of things for a year or two until our pensions kick in. Unfortunately, I’m one of those ‘goody two shoes’ type of girlies that finds knowingly or even accidentally bending...

Good idea, but they also were full for long term berthing when I contacted them recently. I’ll keep trying them- peoples plans change all the time-although they are also a bit of a stretch to our budget ?

What with one thing and another (orca threat/health/weather etc etc), we find ourselves only half way down Portugal (Porto atm), our Schengen time due up in mid December and nowhere booked for over wintering out of Schengen. We were thinking of Tanja Bay Tangier, and started trying to contact...

We’re in Povoa Da Varzim at the moment- worked our way from Falmouth-Brest-A Coruna then short daylight only hops in flat seas, staying (relatively) close to shore. We’ve hand steered all the way each time, as we didn’t want to risk our Aries rudder, or compromise our rather elderly autopilot...

I’m another ribbon fan- bright synthetic satin ribbon; the colours (snooker ball potting system) haven’t faded after 4 years. No sign of corrosion. Plus I had a free packet of those plastic inserts that I popped in at 5m as a ‘slow down get ready’ warning.
